Vision & Objectives

To maintain Europe’s leadership in the definition and development of 3GPP-defined network solutions, it is timely to advance significant innovation breakthrough in the current technologies, techniques, and architectures.

The EAGER project aims to pave the way for the use cases, technologies, and techniques that will constitute the heart of Europe’s 6G satellite communications. EAGER will build on and advance the existing innovations to prepare for next generation satellite networks, targeting highly efficient and deeply integrated satellite networks in beyond 5G and 6G cellular systems. EAGER’s key objectives are:

EAGER_solutions

Assess and adopt solutions/use cases

including Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) techniques, massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC), and more

EAGER_concepts

Identify and evaluate novel concepts

both in the waveform and in the network domain, as well as in the space and ground segment technologies

EAGER_tools

Develop relevant software and tools

to properly assess the performance of the most promising techniques and technologies

Roadmap

Starting from the updates of Rel. 17 and Rel. 18 Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) specifications, EAGER will evaluate the performance/feasibility benchmark of the most promising scenarios and services beyond 5G satellite systems, and perform a technical gap analysis, also targeting those solutions partially or fully discarded within 3GPP.

Phase #1

Identify the most promising scenarios and services beyond 5G satellite systems

Phase #2

Carry out a review and gap analysis of the techniques and technologies for the identified services

Phase #3

Select the techniques and technologies for beyond 5G satellite systems based on the preliminarily evaluation

Phase #4

Develop an integrated software simulator covering all use cases and techniques in order to assess their performance

Phase #5

Define the technology roadmap to increase the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) for the techniques, technologies, and architectures previously assessed
